Then and Now by SweeneyT-DemonBarber Then and Now by SweeneyT-DemonBarber
Haha I can't believe I am actually posting this.
But I recently came across a thread on coscom asking people to post pictures of their first costuming attempts in comparison to what they currently do, so I created this picture.

Man, my first attempt at being Sweeney Todd was so awful, I can't even believe I actually walked around the conventions looking like that (although I see older pics of me as Captain Jack Sparrow and think the same thing). In my 5 years of experience with costuming, I think I have definitely learned to at least figure out how to pose lol

These are both amazing. You look absolutely perfect as Jack Sparrow. In that at first glance i thought you were actually him! And Your Sweeney Cosplay. Oh! That is so awesome! Me being a "connoisseur" of musicals and their film adaptations  I take great appreciation to this!

Oooh thank you very much! Very rarely do people tell me I look just like Jack lol Mostly because of my obvious racial difference to Depp :P So I really appreciate that a lot
And thanks for the compliment on my Sweeney costume too. Although I'd say that the version you see in this photo is really pretty awful. That costume has since been improved.

Haha of course
Thank you very much!

Yea, the vest and razor holster are the ones you have. The vest has all the correct seams and stuff on it like the screen used vest, but the material was too heavy for me to use it during the summer lol I'm thinking now though I probably should have kept that vest and darkened the color to use it as Sweeney's final scene vest, but oh well :P
Mainly the problem I have with my first attempt at Sweeney Todd was my inability to pose and do makeup. And my hair. Oh god... my hair haha

You're welcome!! XD lol of course!! XD

I thought so!! They looked familiar!! XD ^,..,^

I wish I could go to a convention....... I've only been to one...... I'm thinking of chanting my hair but still debating..... I really want to get a bunch if piercings but then if I decide to start dressing like a Victorian lady..... I'm going to have to take them out...... Hmmm....

Go for it! Hair and piercings can all be reversed generally, as long as you don't get your piercings gauged.
I've also seen people dressed in Victorian clothing with piercings... it's not too bad I don't think. Plus you can use those clear plastic piercing place-holder earrings, ya know?

ThanQ!! But for accuracy people from then didn't have outlandish piercings like the nose and eyebrow......

But it's true I could use the clear ones.... When needed...

ThanQ!! I wonder what I should do first......

Yea, that's true. I'd still go for it though, especially if you're just dressing like that every day and not trying to re-create certain events or anything (like performing or doing living history demonstrations etc).

Lol who knows I might try to be Mrs Lovett in something in "the tunnels" in London. Unless they'd let a woman do Sweeney!! XD

You mean the London Dungeons? That would be awesome if you did that!

Sweeney Todd character looks very accurate to the character portrayed in the movie, Captain Jack Sparrow is just hard to put together as a costume alone and you hit that pretty well.
I could maybe do Sweeney Todd and figure it out, but Jack Sparrow looks so complex that my head would explode, I would probably get tangled up in his hair loopy thingies.

Thank you very much!
Sweeney Todd is a relatively simple costume, however with it being from a live-action you really have to match all the details to the screen used costume. So both costumes are very detailed, just the details on Sweeney are less obvious. Jack Sparrow was a bit hard to get together, but if you just get the main look down first and then do updates later on to nail down the finite details, then it's a fairly straightforward costume to get together.
If you did either Sweeney or Sparrow that would be awesome!
